Relief. Understanding. Change.
Hi, I’m Aaron, a Senior Student of Core Process Psychotherapy. I provide one-to-one therapy for adults in Frome.
A safe, compassionate and confidential space to talk and explore your inner self, where all is welcome. A place to be truly heard and seen, without judgement.

Up to this point, I have spent 16 years practicing another professional career which I have partially stepped away from to focus more fully on this work. I feel this new path is increasingly more important for the times we find ourselves living in. I’m in my 3rd year of a 4-year psychotherapy training, pursuing a passion for understanding myself and one another.
I am a huge fan of hiking, especially in the solitude of the Welsh mountains or Scottish Highlands. I also enjoy some time on the racetrack on the motorbike, running, and being with my partner and young daughter.
I have always been fascinated in both our psychology and having deep reflective conversations into ‘what it’s all about’. Like many, I have seen and experienced the suffering and struggles that life will throw. Alongside a desire to work more closely with people, I felt inspired to begin this work and explore ways to help alleviate struggles and ultimately, to heal.

Fundamentally, therapy isn’t about problem solving as such, it is relational. It is a safe space to share and approach your inner world as far as you feel comfortable to. It is to be supportive, allowing you to really be heard and listened to, without judgement. We can take steps in the direction that feels right for you.
The work is that of gentle enquiry together, becoming more familiar with what lays beneath that which keeps us held back in our lives.
There may be unhelpful patterns that seem to repeat and play out in friendships, intimate relationships, social settings or work. We all have patterns that are hidden and ingrained within us, for good reasons, but these may no longer serve us in the present day as life continues to change in and around us.
Understanding how we think is one thing, but what shapes how we feel and ‘be’ often isn’t obvious. We can work with how these patterns show up between us in the therapy room, and gently look at how our ways of being take different forms across our lives. Developing more awareness of these familiar patterns can open up choice in how we respond to them over time.
Psychotherapy is, generally speaking, a longer-term talking therapy. However, not all work needs to be long term.
I work with trauma, anxiety and worry, stress, depression and with times when life feels stuck or hard to move forward.
The type of therapy I practice is Core Process Psychotherapy. It is also referred to as ‘humanistic’ and ‘integrative’ in that, it considers all aspects of what we consider ourselves to be as humans; our psychological minds, how this links to our bodies and lastly, it appreciates the ‘something else’ about us that some might call our spirit or soul or the part that makes us alive and conscious.
The roots of this approach are taken from a blend of modern Western theories about our psyches alongside more ancient Buddhist wisdom, practices and understandings of life. We explore, together, how our inherent health becomes obscured through our experiences and conditioning, and as we adapt to try and ‘be’ and fit in with our World as we find it.
Core Process Psychotherapy is informed by mindfulness, which supports a reflective and open minded way of working. Alongside my clinical training, I have a meditative practice that helps me to step back, gain perspective, and stay attuned to what is happening beyond my own habitual thinking.

You can contact me by emailing aaron.calver@gmail.com or by using the contact form below to arrange an initial meeting in person (Frome, Somerset) or online.
This initial meeting is free of charge and can last up to an hour. The purpose of this is to meet each other, talk about what brings you to therapy, understand what you would like to get out of therapy, and for you to gauge if I feel like a good fit for you.
If we decide to work together, I usually suggest a commitment of 6 sessions which also give time for the relationship to settle. We can then check and reflect on whether the work feels helpful and decide to continue or not from there.
The cost is £45 / session, which are always a full hour.
